Belgium may lose first place in FIFA rankings if defeated on Wednesday

The Red Devils will have more to play than first place in the group Wednesday night in Iceland on Matchday 4 of Group A2 of the Nations League. A defeat in Reykjavik, combined with a French victory in Croatia, will cause Belgium to lose its first place in the next FIFA ranking.

After the friendly split against Côte d'Ivoire (1-1) Thursday and the defeat against England (2-1) on Sunday, the Devils have virtually 1760.85 points on the clock. France, world champion, follows closely with 1745.79 units after a large victory against Ukraine (7-1) in friendly and a division against Portugal (0-0) in the League of Nations on Sunday.

If the Blues were to win Wednesday in Croatia, they would have 1751.78 points, more than the total of the Devils in the event of Belgian defeat in Iceland (1749.49).

The Red Devils have been at the top of the FIFA rankings since September 20, 2018 after having already occupied it between November 2015 and March 2016. Only three nations have retained this position longer than Belgium: Brazil, Spain and Germany .
